This is part of an ongoing project with the MIT Self Assembly Lab and an external fashion company to create bags which can transform when a specific force is applied. Transformations can either be from 2D to 3D, or change in shape. Many specific transformations are being achieved through the incorporation of bi-stable mechanisms such as snap bracelets. The bags below are hand-sewn examples of two transformations.
